- AI Overview
- A generated answer at the top of some Google results, with links to sources. Search Console counts an AI Overview as one position, and a click on an external link inside it counts as a click. See the SERP feature guide.
- Anonymized queries
- Queries Search Console omits from query-level reports "to protect user privacy". Filtering by query therefore lowers totals. See the Search Console hub.
- Average position
- In Search Console, the topmost position occupied by a link to your site, averaged across all queries where it appeared. It is not a ranking. See the average position guide.
- Branded query
- A search that contains your brand name or a variant of it. Report branded and non-branded performance separately. See the branded vs non-branded guide.
- Click
- Google: "How often someone clicked a link from Google to your site." Clicking the same result again after returning counts once.
- Cohort (keyword cohort)
- A fixed, versioned list of queries measured under the same conditions. Changing it starts a new series. See the rank-tracking method.
- Coverage
- The share of a keyword cohort found within the checked depth, for example 32 of 40 keywords in the top 20. Report it next to any average position.
- Click-through rate (CTR)
- Clicks divided by impressions. Google: "The calculation of (clicks ÷ impressions)." See the CTR guide.
- Depth
- How many results are checked per query, for example the top 20. Keep it constant within a series.
- Impression
- Google: "a user has seen (or potentially seen) a link to your site". In a carousel, the item must be scrolled into view.
- Machine-generated traffic
- Google's term for automated queries sent to Google, which its spam policies say includes "scraping results for rank-checking purposes". See our methodology.
- SERP feature
- Any element of a results page other than a plain text result, such as People also ask, video results or top stories. Google calls these visual elements.
- A domain's weighted visibility divided by the total for all domains across a defined keyword set. It is a model, not a click count. See the share-of-voice guide.
- Synthetic data
- Invented data used to show a method or interface. All synthetic data on SpinSERP is labeled, including the home-page terminal demo.
- Volatility
- How much a results page changes between comparable checks, measured with a stated formula such as top-10 URL churn. See the volatility guide.
